Whether filler has migrated, feels uneven or you simply want to return closer to your natural appearance, filler dissolving can be used to reduce or remove unwanted hyaluronic acid dermal filler.
Elective filler dissolving
1 hr
Dissolve away old dermal filler treatments with our elective dissolving.
Please note: This treatment is priced per facial area and can dissolve up to 2mL of filler. All elective dissolving requires a patch test before hand. This treatment is not suitable for those with a history or allergy to bee stings, wasps stings or a history of anaphylaxis.
Filler dissolving involves injecting an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid dermal filler. It may be used to reduce or remove unwanted filler, correct certain complications or prepare an area for future treatment.
Why might someone choose to dissolve their filler?
People may choose dissolving because they are unhappy with the shape or volume, the filler has migrated, the area feels uneven, or they simply want to return closer to their natural appearance.
What types of filler can be dissolved?
Hyaluronidase works on hyaluronic acid fillers. It will not dissolve every type of injectable filler, so knowing what product was previously used can be helpful.
Does filler dissolving hurt?
You may feel stinging, pressure or discomfort during treatment. The level of discomfort varies depending on the area being treated and the amount of dissolving required.
Will all of my filler in the treatment area disappear?
Not necessarily. The amount dissolved depends on the area, product, amount of filler present and dose used. Some patients may require more than one session.
Will filler dissolving affect filler in other areas?
Hyaluronidase acts mainly in the area where it is injected, so filler in other, untreated areas is unlikely to be affected. However, if filler sits close to the area being dissolved, there is a possibility that some nearby hyaluronic acid filler could also be broken down. This will be discussed with you before treatment so the dissolving can be as targeted as possible.
How quickly does filler dissolve?
Hyaluronidase starts working quickly, although swelling can make it difficult to judge the final result immediately. The area is usually reassessed once it has had time to settle.
How long after dissolving can I have new filler?
It's best to allow the area to settle fully before considering further filler. This is often about 2 weeks after your final round of filler dissolving.
Is there any downtime?
Some swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising can occur after treatment. The area may look temporarily uneven or more swollen before it settles, particularly if there was already swelling from previous filler. The area may also temporarily lose volume, typically taking about 2 weeks to return to baseline.
Are there any side effects?
Common temporary side effects include redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. Hyaluronidase can also cause allergic reactions, which can rarely be severe. The risks and your medical history will be discussed before treatment.
Will dissolving filler damage my natural tissue?
Hyaluronidase targets hyaluronic acid and does not dissolve fat, muscle or collagen. It can temporarily break down some naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the treated area, but this is continually replaced by the body. Swelling and changes in appearance immediately after dissolving can also make the area look different while it settles.
Can filler be dissolved in an emergency?
Yes. Hyaluronidase may be used urgently when a hyaluronic acid filler is suspected of compromising a blood vessel. This is different from elective dissolving and requires immediate clinical assessment.
Can I have treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Treatment is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
