RESULTS & LONGEVITY
How Long Does Botox Last & When Does It Start Working?
Botox results aren't immediate. Changes develop gradually after treatment before reaching their full effect and, over time, naturally wearing off. Here's what you can typically expect...
When does Botox start working?
Day 1
Treatment takes place.
Around 2 weeks
Your final results can be assessed
At this stage, the full effect can usually be seen.
Botox works by temporarily reducing the signals between nerves and the muscles being treated. This reduces the muscle activity responsible for creating certain expression lines.
You may begin to notice the first changes around 3–5 days after treatment, although this varies from person to person.
At this stage, movement may begin to feel reduced and lines caused by facial expression can start to appear softer. This isn't usually the finished result.
Days 3-5
You shouldn't expect an immediate reduction in muscle movement.
You may begin to notice the first changes in muscle movement and expression lines.
The results become increasingly established.

How long does Botox last?
Typically lasts
3-4 months
For many patients, Botox results last around 3–4 months, although this varies between individuals. The effects gradually wear off as muscle activity returns rather than disappearing suddenly.
What affects how long Botox lasts?
Different muscles vary in size, strength and how frequently they're used.
Treatment Area
Your lifestyle may also play a role. Smoking, alcohol consumption, activity levels and other lifestyle factors may contribute to differences in how long results last, although Botox longevity varies considerably between individuals.
Muscle Activity
Stronger or more active muscles can influence treatment longevity.
Individual Response
Everyone responds differently and treatment duration naturally varies.
Treatment Approach
Dose and placement ae individually tailored to your anatomy and goals.
Does Botox last longer the more you have it?
For some patients, regular treatment can mean the effects appear to last longer over time.
Repeatedly reducing the activity of a particular muscle can cause it to become less strong through reduced use. This can mean less movement is required to be controlled during subsequent treatments.
However, this isn't guaranteed, and Botox remains a temporary treatment. Your individual response, treatment area and desired result will continue to influence how frequently treatment is appropriate.
How do I know my Botox is wearing off?
Botox usually wears off gradually rather than suddenly. You may notice small changes in movement before your expression lines become more noticeable again.
01 - MOVEMENT STARTS TO RETURN
You may notice more movement when raising your eyebrows, frowning or smiling.
↓
02 - EXPRESSION LINES BECOME MORE VISIBLE
As muscle activity returns, lines may become more noticeable during facial expression.
↓
03 — MUSCLE ACTIVITY RETURNS TOWARDS NORMAL
Over time, the treated muscles gradually return towards their usual level of activity.
This is completely expected. Botox is a temporary treatment, so the gradual return of movement doesn't mean anything has gone wrong.
Will my wrinkles be worse afterwards?
No — Botox won't normally make your wrinkles worse
As muscle activity gradually returns, your facial movement and expression lines generally move back towards their pre-treatment appearance.
Because Botox can reduce repeated folding of the skin while it is active, some people may actually feel that certain lines appear softer following regular treatment. However, Botox doesn't permanently stop the natural ageing process.
How often should I have Botox?
Typically every
3-4 months
There's no single treatment schedule that's right for everyone. How often you choose treatment will depend on factors including your individual response, treatment area and desired result.
What if my Botox hasn't worked after a few days?
It's usually too early to tell.
Botox needs time to work, and assessing your result too early can give a misleading impression of the final outcome.
If you're only a few days post-treatment, continued changes are still expected.
We recommend allowing approximately two weeks before assessing the finished result. If you still have concerns once your treatment has had sufficient time to settle, you can contact us for advice.
